Celebrate with Ohav Shalom at this wonderful event where we’ll honor our congregants, Ed and Laura Jacobs and Dan and Terry Tyson at an 11AM Sunday Gala Brunch on December 9th.
By joining us in celebration on Sunday morning the 9th of December, you’ll be expressing your heartfelt thanks for the work Ed, Ed, Laura, Dan and Terry have done for Ohav as well as your commitment to our wonderful Synagogue.
Dr. Ed Jacobs is an OB-GYN who recently retired after 35 years in practice. Ed and Laura have been members of Ohav for [ ] years. Both of their daughters, Lisa and Tami, were bat mitzvah‘d at Ohav.
Ed currently serves on the boards of Congregation Ohav Shalom, Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home, and Maimonides Hebrew Day School. In the past, he has served as President of the HACD Board, member of Jewish Family Services Board and chair of the UJFNENY Maimonides Society where he is a member of the steering committee. Ed was also on the board of the Ronald McDonald House and remains active there.
Ed and his wife, Laura Jacobs, were recipients of the Dr. Morton Berger Memorial Award presented by Maimonides Hebrew Day School in 2004. They are the parents of Lisa and Tami, and are active members of Congregation Ohav Shalom.
At Ohav, Ed is 1st Vice President and is chair of the Safety and Security Committee and the Life and Legacy Society. He has also been involved with membership outreach.
Dan and Terry Tyson joined Congregation Ohav Shalom in 1981, when their daughters Amanda and Deborah were 5 and 2 respectively.
Dan served two nonconsecutive periods on the Ohav Shalom Board of Trustees. The first was a stint under the leadership of Avram Tabachneck, Neil Davidoff and Dick Weisz. The second was in the capacity as Membership Co-Chair under the leadership of Cindy Laks, Al Dorn, Jeff Cohen, Jeff Suitor and Libby Post.
From 1999 to 2001, both Dan and Terry participated in Rabbi Rena’s B’nai Mitzvah class. Gaining confidence from that experience, Dan began attending Tuesday morning minyan and ultimately became Tuesday morning minyan captain, a position he still holds today.
In 2003 and 2004, Dan and Terry served on the Ohav Shalom Capital Campaign Committee, which ultimately raised the funds required to complete the renovation of both the main sanctuary and the chapel.
Terry has been a member of Ohav’s Communications Committee for more than ten years. In 2011, she worked on Ohav’s 100th Anniversary Celebration and the synagogue’s first Torah Writing Campaign. For several years, she was a member of the Shomrei Adamah environmental committee and Ohav’s Fundraising Committee. Terry served on the Board of Directors under the leadership of Al Dorn, Jeff Cohen, Jeff Suitor and Libby Post. For the past two and a half years, she has volunteered for Ohav’s Welcoming the Stranger initiative as one of the mentors who provide support to the Zadran family from Afghanistan as they navigate life in the United States. Terry continues to serve as Co-Editor of the DASH, Ohav Shalom’s quarterly newsletter.
