TALMUD TORAH

2007-2008/5768

Over the past few years, the Talmud Torah of our congregation has undergone a renewal in the form of a new and exciting atmosphere of Jewish learning and commitment to Jewish education for our students, their families and our faculty. We are now moving towards our goal of more family education, and Jewish cultural arts through a diversity of media and programs.

The Kitah Bet Consecration was held on May  9, 2008 at Congregation Ohav Shalom. Before a full house of families and friends, the members of second grade class lead the Friday night Shabbat services. In addition, the students shared their own review of all they had learned during the year, and their favorite activities. Rabbi Dan told a wonderful story, and helped the students understand the significance of the Consecration. Teacher Judy Avner shared her recollections of the year, and, on behalf of the congregation, presented each student with a specially inscribed Siddur Sim Shalom. As a class mitzvah project, the children put together “birthday boxes,” boxes that contained all the makings for a child’s birthday party, and donated the boxes to the Emergency Shelter of Unity House in Troy.
